Software Developer - FAA Air Traffic Control Systems

About the role

Leidos is seeking a junior to mid-level Software Developer to join a team developing and maintaining software that improves aircraft runway and terminal congestion. The work supports the FAA's Terminal Flight Data Manager (TFDM), a NextGen program that gives airport surface managers a comprehensive, integrated traffic control and management system. The position is hybrid: 3 days in the office and 2 days from home, either at the Eagan, MN office (preferred) or the Gaithersburg, MD office.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain FAA air traffic control display software in an object-oriented environment (primarily C++/Java) on a UNIX/Linux platform.
• Perform software development as needed for the TFDM system.
• Provide support for system engineering.
• Design the user interface framework, including client and server-side components.
• Work in an Agile Scrum environment, both as part of a team and independently.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field with 2+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in a related field.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance and FAA suitability.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites.

Required skills

• Object-oriented design and development in C++ and Java.
• Documented software development process and version control (Git, Subversion or CVS).
• UNIX and Linux operating systems.
• Desired: Qt GUI development, Ansible, shell scripting, Python, other languages (C, Ada, Perl), Atlassian/JIRA, and FAA air traffic domain knowledge.

Selectees are subject to a government security investigation. Pay range: $69,550 - $125,725.
