Softgoods Designer for Advanced Space Suit Projects

About the role

Join Oceaneering Group Enterprise as a Softgoods Designer supporting NASA JSC Engineering, Technology, and Science (JETS) II contract. You will work on innovative softgoods for advanced exploration space suits, contributing to human spaceflight and deep‑space missions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, fabricate, and test functional softgoods articles for advanced space suits and ancillary items.
• Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and designers to translate requirements into sewn products and prototypes.
• Create patterns, mock‑ups, and detailed fabrication drawings; document processes and techniques.
• Maintain and modify machines (sewing machines, laser cutters, 3D printers, etc.) for unique operations.
• Keep lab spaces organized, travel occasionally to other NASA centers, and perform physical tasks such as lifting and working in confined spaces.

Required profile

• High school diploma with 5 years experience or BS in Engineering Technology or related field.
• Proven ability to solve complex design challenges independently and within cross‑disciplinary teams.
• Strong attention to detail, ownership of tasks, and effective communication at all organizational levels.
• U.S. citizenship or permanent residency and ability to pass a government background investigation.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD, Rhino) and Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator).
• Experience with sewing machines, laser cutters, fabric welders, 3D printers, bandsaws, drills, and hand tools.
• Knowledge of softgoods fabrication, pattern making, and textile testing procedures.
• Familiarity with aerospace product design processes and NASA/JSC softgoods lifecycle.
