Social Worker – Per Diem (Part‑time)

About the role

The University of Miami Health System is seeking a Per Diem Social Worker to provide psychosocial assessments, interventions, treatment, and discharge planning for patients and families. This part‑time position supports patients during hospitalization and assists with post‑discharge needs.

Key responsibilities

• Interview patients and families to assess social and emotional needs.
• Provide crisis intervention and explain the impact of medical situations on lifestyle.
• Conduct psychosocial assessments to identify emotional, social, and environmental issues.
• Develop and implement intervention plans using appropriate social work techniques.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary healthcare team and involve patients and families in care planning.
• Screen for and manage cases of abuse, neglect, domestic violence, and sexual assault.
• Make referrals, serve as a resource for staff, and advocate for patients.
• Maintain knowledge of relevant medical and legal issues and keep accurate records.
• Participate in staff, committee, and departmental meetings.
• Follow university policies and safeguard institutional assets.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Social Work.
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
