Site Reliability Engineer (Founding Role)
Exiger · Jersey City
Job description
About the role
Exiger, an AI partner for supply chain and procurement automation, is hiring its first dedicated Site Reliability Engineer. This is a founding role based in Jersey City with a hybrid arrangement, and it requires U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a U.S. security clearance. You will set the standards, tooling and practices that keep the platform reliable for 550+ customers, including Fortune 500 companies and U.S. government agencies, and own reliability across the full service lifecycle.
Key responsibilities
- Establish the SRE function: define SLIs, SLOs and error budgets, and set reliability standards adopted by other engineering teams.
- Build observability: instrument services for availability, latency and system health and turn signals into actionable insight.
- Make data-driven decisions: form hypotheses, measure the impact of changes and prioritize reliability by metrics.
- Own production reliability from design consulting and launch reviews through steady-state operation.
- Automate repetitive manual work with infrastructure as code and self-service tooling.
- Plan for scale through capacity planning and performance analysis.
- Run chaos engineering and fault-injection tests (game days) to ensure graceful degradation and recovery.
- Lead blameless incident response and postmortems, and join an on-call rotation.
- Use AI-assisted development tools (such as Codex and Claude) to speed automation and investigations.
Required profile
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 6 years of software or systems engineering experience, including at least 4 years in a dedicated SRE, production or platform reliability role; you must have practiced SRE before.
- 4 years designing, analyzing and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
- Proven incident management experience: on-call ownership, leading response under pressure and driving blameless postmortems.
- Willingness to travel as needed for customer engagements.
Required skills
- Strong Unix/Linux internals and networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, routing, load balancing).
- Hands-on experience with SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, monitoring, observability, capacity planning and automation.
- Experience with chaos engineering or fault-injection testing (e.g., Chaos Monkey, Gremlin, LitmusChaos).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS) and secure system integration.
- Nice to have: Go or C (Java also welcome), ML/data platform support, Snowflake, Redshift or Apache Iceberg, and FedRAMP or other regulated environments.
What we offer
- Discretionary time off with no maximum limit.
- Health, vision and dental benefits.
- Competitive compensation package.
- 16 weeks of fully paid parental leave.
- Flexible hybrid work and wellness stipends.
- Career development programs with reimbursement for educational certifications.
