Data Science Manager, MLB

About the role

FanDuel is looking for a Data Science Manager for its Sports Modeling & Innovation team. You will build predictive models of sports to create tools and dashboards, price markets and drive insights across the FanDuel Group, working closely with product, risk and trading teams. You will also manage and develop other data scientists.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, iterate and deploy machine learning models to predict sports outcomes and improve the betting product range
• Improve pricing techniques, working with trading teams to optimize predictive and derivative model pricing
• Manage a group of data scientists, set project plans and troubleshoot coding and modeling issues
• Manage data preparation from collection through cleaning, and build robust predictive models with feature and model selection
• Create dashboards and data visualizations, and present findings to senior leaders
• Work with stakeholders to turn their goals into data-driven insights, and lead forums and large meetings
• Grow and develop talent, and improve efficiency in ways of working

Required profile

• At least 5 years of industry experience in data science, analytics or engineering preferred
• Bachelor's degree in a numerate major (Math, Stats, Econ, etc.) or relevant data science experience preferred
• Experience managing or mentoring data scientists or analysts
• Strong verbal and written communication, able to present to senior management and explain business KPIs
• Ability to work across teams, locations and time zones, and willingness to work nontraditional hours when needed
• Interest in or experience with sports gaming and/or fantasy sports

Required skills

• High proficiency in Python or R and SQL (or another coding language)
• Strong understanding of Bayesian statistics
• Command-line tools and GitHub, object-oriented design and coding
