Shared Laboratory Resource Specialist I - Clinical Research Unit

About the role

The Clinical Research Unit at Cleveland Clinic supports 100–200 active trials and needs a dedicated laboratory specialist to manage pre‑analytical activities. This bench‑based position works on a patient floor, providing close connection to patient care while supporting research teams.

Key responsibilities

• Read and follow experimental protocols, logging samples and service requests.
• Calculate, compile, and communicate data to core leadership or internal customers.
• Perform quality assurance on all assigned activities according to SOPs.
• Maintain laboratory inventories, order materials, and prepare equipment for assays.
• Assist with minor equipment repairs, cleaning, and general maintenance.
• Support execution of specialized services and ensure compliance with institute, sponsor, and federal regulations.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree in a relevant scientific field or two years of related experience.
• Certification in the appropriate field may be required within one year of hire.
• Critical thinking, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in a biological science, comfort handling all specimen types (including COVID‑positive), and strong interest in research.
