Service Technician

About the role

Fairstead, a real estate firm focused on affordable housing, is hiring a Maintenance Technician in Champaign to keep the day-to-day operations running and to take responsibility for maintaining the property's physical assets. The role involves regular inspections, repairs, safety checks and responding to emergencies.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect buildings and equipment regularly for repairs and improvements.
• Carry out preventative maintenance and repairs as needed.
• Implement maintenance policies and standards to prevent misuse of appliances.
• Keep properties safe and free of danger to occupants, visitors and workers.
• Clean and prepare vacated buildings and rooms for new occupants.
• Check electrical wiring for accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
• Test safety systems and devices monthly.
• Take part in the on-call rotation and respond promptly to emergency maintenance outside normal hours.
• Maintain an inventory of supplies, tools and equipment.

Required profile

• Prior experience as a Service Technician or in a similar role.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and to lift up to 70 pounds without assistance.
• Dexterity and attention to detail.
• Verbal and written communication skills.

Required skills

• Mechanical skills for minor repairs and fixtures.
• Knowledge of electricity to diagnose electrical problems and make minor repairs.
• General maintenance skills.
• HVAC, CMRP or equivalent certification preferred.
