Senior UX Designer, Design System

Job description
About the role
Ryan, a global tax services and technology company, is looking for a Senior UX Designer, Design Systems to own and evolve the design system behind its suite of digital tax products. This is a craft-first individual contributor role focused on token naming, component behavior, documentation clarity and systematic thinking so the system stays usable at scale. Candidates must include a digital portfolio or link in their application.
Key responsibilities
- Set and maintain the standard for how components are built, named, documented and used across the team, and educate designers on system usage
- Identify gaps, inconsistencies and debt in the system and advocate for high-impact improvements
- Work with Engineering to keep components accurate in code, and with Product and Visual Design to align patterns with real product needs
- Take part in design system governance with the design and craft perspective
- Build and maintain a well-documented library of reusable Figma components, including token and variable architecture
- Write practical documentation covering usage guidelines, do's and don'ts and implementation notes
- Bake accessibility into the system from the start (WCAG, ARIA, contrast ratios)
Required profile
- 5-8 years of product/UX design experience, with meaningful ownership of an enterprise-level design system used by multiple products
- Proven track record of building, maintaining and scaling component libraries adopted by product teams
- Financial, enterprise or B2B background is a plus
- Demonstrated ability with AI tools that speed up design and research (e.g. Claude, Figma Make, Lovable)
- Detail-oriented, systems thinker, comfortable at the intersection of design and engineering
Required skills
- Deep Figma expertise: variables, tokens, component properties, auto-layout and library management
- Understanding of how design systems translate into code; HTML, CSS and component-based frameworks such as React are a meaningful plus
What we offer
- Hybrid work, with three days in the office during the first 60 days, then adapting to a minimum of one day per week
- Unlimited PTO, 401(k) with employer match, tuition reimbursement after one year, fertility assistance and a four-week paid sabbatical after five years
- Monthly gym membership or equipment reimbursement, benefits eligibility effective day one, and 14 weeks of 100% paid leave for new parents
