Senior Staff Security Engineer, Distributed Systems

About the role

Cerebras Systems builds the world's largest AI chip, which delivers training and inference speeds over 10 times faster than GPU-based cloud services. It is looking for a Senior Staff Security Engineer, Distributed Systems to help build the next generation of security controls and services for its on-prem and cloud clusters. You will drive hardening efforts across every layer of the cluster stack, from bare metal to virtualized and Kubernetes containerized systems.

Key responsibilities

• Define core security requirements for distributed systems, from secure boot configurations to workload identity in Kubernetes pods.
• Partner with platform, infrastructure, networking and hardware teams to find gaps and deliver end-to-end solutions that improve the environment's security maturity.
• Develop threat models for each part of the cluster stack, outlining trust boundaries and the interaction between first- and third-party mechanisms.
• Work with engineering leads and architects to bake security into designs from the start.
• Balance engineering outcomes with security controls so the company can deliver securely and quickly.
• Document the security posture and strategy for technical and non-technical audiences, from both first- and third-party perspectives.

Required profile

• 8-10 years of experience with heterogeneous compute environments, Kubernetes hardening and general networked system security.
• 10+ years of experience with high-performance computing clusters (HPCs).
• Strong hands-on engineering in on-prem and cloud environments, able to harden both modern Kubernetes deployments and bare metal instances.
• Ability to work in fragmented ecosystems while maintaining security standards in a fast-paced development environment.
• Strong written communication, able to explain security concepts to non-specialists.
