Senior Staff Electrical Engineer, R&D

About the role

Stryker is looking for a Senior Staff Electrical Engineer to join its R&D team of new product innovators that partners with leading neuro and spine surgeons. The role owns the electrical hardware design for complex handheld powered devices used in cranial and spinal procedures, within a multidisciplinary team working across the globe. Work is hybrid.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, development and troubleshooting of electrical systems, subsystems and components for medical devices.
• Apply advanced electrical engineering principles to create innovative, reliable and compliant product designs.
• Translate user, clinical and business needs into system requirements, specifications and architectural designs.
• Drive prototyping, verification, validation and testing strategies and resolve complex technical challenges.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and influence their integration into future product development.
• Make critical design tradeoff decisions and contribute to intellectual property through patents, disclosures and trade secrets.
• Partner with Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing and Project Management teams to deliver products.
• Lead customer-centric design activities such as Voice of Customer initiatives, using market, competitive and clinical insights.
• Serve as subject matter expert on medical device regulations, industry standards, design controls and technical documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 6+ years of work experience.

Required skills

• Preferred: ability to lead or teach electrical engineers in electrical design.
• Preferred: advanced understanding of complex component and subsystem design, and of manufacturing and testing methods.
• Preferred: ability to apply standard industry technologies and perform complex electrical stackups.
• Preferred: advanced understanding of statistical methods and of sub-system, system and environmental interactions.

What we offer

• Salary of $102,600 - $171,000 USD per year.
• Hybrid work flexibility.
• Travel of approximately 20%.
