Senior Staff Attorney

About the role

The Senior Staff Attorney will serve as an on‑the‑ground immigration attorney delivering limited‑scope legal services across multiple regions of New York State, focusing on vulnerable immigrant populations. Reporting to the Managing Attorney, this role also supervises up to three full‑time staff and a cohort of part‑time contract attorneys.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct limited‑scope immigration services, including asylum, SIJS, TPS applications, EOIR filings, bond and habeas motions, and legal screenings.
• Supervise and review work of Staff Attorneys, contract attorneys, and Senior/Paralegals, ensuring high‑quality, culturally responsive services.
• Coordinate rapid‑response initiatives and special projects addressing changes in immigration law and policy.
• Develop and deliver training materials for legal volunteers, clinics, and community partners.
• Oversee data collection, tracking, and reporting to maintain transparency and efficiency of legal service delivery.

Required profile

• Licensed attorney admitted to practice in New York with 3–5 years of immigration law experience.
• 2–3 years of supervisory experience preferred.
• Demonstrated commitment to immigrant justice and experience with vulnerable or detained populations.
• Bilingual English‑Spanish preferred.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Legal Server.
• Experience using Salesforce.
• Strong skills in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets) and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to create visual materials using Canva.
