Senior Software Engineer, Payments & Ledger

About the role

Join Splash’s remote engineering team to own the money side of a fast‑growing fantasy sports platform. You will design, build, and operate backend services that handle deposits, withdrawals, entry fees, payouts, fraud checks, and a double‑entry ledger linking every cent to player wallets.

Key responsibilities

• Design and scale a double‑entry ledger and wallet services covering cash, promo balances, escrow, house accounts, and processor clearing.
• Build payment flows for cards and ACH, integrate with multiple processors, handle webhooks, idempotency, refunds, chargebacks and payout orchestration.
• Implement real‑time fraud and risk checks, KYC/AML gating, velocity limits and coordinate with Trust & Safety.
• Automate daily three‑way reconciliation between ledger, processor reports and bank statements.
• Feed clean financial data into Snowflake/dbt for finance reporting and ensure audit‑ready, exactly‑once posting.
• Participate in on‑call rotation for payment systems, especially during high‑traffic sports events.

Required profile

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience with at least 2 years building production payment, fintech, wallet or ledger systems.
• Strong attention to financial correctness, rounding errors and race conditions.
• Self‑starter with excellent communication skills for remote collaboration with finance and compliance teams.
• Comfortable troubleshooting unknown systems, including processor anomalies and settlement files.
• Willingness to work core hours and occasional evenings for major sporting events.

Required skills

• Node.js with TypeScript
• AWS (including RDS PostgreSQL)
• Relational databases, deep knowledge of PostgreSQL isolation levels and schema design for append‑only financial data
• Payment processor integration (webhooks, idempotency, chargebacks, settlement reports)
• Fraud and risk controls (KYC, AML, velocity checks)
• Automated testing for financial logic, Git
