Senior Software Developer - Android Apps

About the role

Esri's Field Apps team is looking for a Senior Software Developer to lead the development of Android applications that support real-time, mission-critical field operations such as utility crews restoring power and conservationists tracking wildlife. The role drives technical direction, mentors others and architects solutions using modern Android frameworks and tools, with support for offline workflows, advanced mapping and device integration. The position is onsite in Redlands, California, and relocation assistance is available.

Key responsibilities

• Build Android apps from architecture to design (ICS and up)
• Work with other developers and designers throughout the development process
• Understand user requirements so the apps fit real-world scenarios
• Develop software for field mapping, data collection, sensor networks, street navigation and more
• Solve complex problems involving design, development and user experience
• Act as an Android advocate within the company and at conferences, helping grow Android development capability at Esri

Required profile

• 5+ years of commercial software development experience
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or mathematics
• Good communication skills, teamwork and ability to work independently
• Ability to thrive in a fast-changing environment
• Preferred: Master's degree, prior experience building spatial or mapping applications, and experience with security or native hardware components (GPS, camera)
