Senior Scientist – Physical AI for Surgical Robotics

About the role
Join Philips to help shape the next generation of intelligent surgical robotics. You will collaborate with robotics, software, and clinical experts to develop first‑of‑kind Physical AI solutions that advance autonomy, decision‑making, and workflow intelligence for image‑guided procedures.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and apply Physical AI solutions for surgical robotics by combining model‑based robotics methods with multimodal foundation models, including Vision‑Language‑Action (VLA) models.
- Design and evaluate AI solutions that integrate vision, language, and robot actions for image‑guided interventions.
- Develop algorithms and software in an FDA‑regulated environment and contribute to system architecture, validation strategy, and technical documentation.
- Partner with system engineering, clinical, regulatory, product management, and business marketing teams to translate research concepts into production‑ready solutions.
Required profile
- 5+ years of experience applying AI or robotics methods to image‑guided interventions, surgical robotics, or medical imaging.
- Master’s or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technical field (PhD preferred).
- Proven ability to lead technical work from concept through implementation and coordinate across cross‑functional teams and academic partners.
Required skills
- Python programming and modern AI/ML frameworks.
- C++ development (preferred).
- Experience with Vision‑Language‑Action models, multimodal AI, and large language models.
- Familiarity with reinforcement learning and learning from demonstration.
- Model‑based robotics methods for motion planning, control, and autonomy.
- CI/CD processes and clean, maintainable code practices.
What we offer
- Salary range $157,000–$249,000 per year plus potential annual incentive bonus and long‑term incentives.
