Senior R&D Engineer – Sustaining Engineering (IVL)

About the role

The client is looking for a highly motivated Senior R&D Engineer to join the Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL) Sustaining Engineering team in Carlsbad, CA. The team is responsible for the design ownership and technical support of commercialized Class II and III catheter‑based medical devices, ensuring patient safety, regulatory compliance and long‑term product performance.

Key responsibilities

• Execute design change activities and manage them through established design control and change management processes.
• Develop technical justifications and supporting data to verify that product design intent is maintained after modifications.
• Collaborate with Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical, Marketing and Project Management to support product lifecycle activities.
• Identify and implement design improvements that reduce cost and improve manufacturing efficiency.
• Analyze field feedback, complaint trends and performance data to propose product enhancements.
• Lead quality investigations, root‑cause analyses and corrective actions related to product reliability.
• Interface with suppliers, physicians and external partners as needed.
• Plan and manage individual project tasks to meet timelines and deliverables.
• Analyze test results, draw technical conclusions and prepare clear documentation.

Required profile

• Authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.
• Ability to work with limited supervision in a fast‑paced, cross‑functional environment.
• Experience with Class II/III medical device design, sustaining engineering or related R&D roles.
