Senior Project Manager – Research Strategic Operations

About the role

The University of Miami’s Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Scholarship is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead its Research Strategic Operations. In this role you will oversee multi‑unit projects that advance the university’s research goals, manage resources, schedules and budgets, and ensure timely delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with department leaders to define, prioritize and develop strategic research projects.
• Drive project management activities, set deadlines, assign tasks and monitor progress.
• Analyze financial data, manage project budgets, assess risks and allocate resources.
• Develop and refine project‑management office policies and processes.
• Document project scope, budget, justification and execution details.
• Provide coaching, training and performance reviews for project staff.
• Ensure compliance with university financial guidelines and manage procurement of supplies and equipment.
• Coordinate inter‑project dependencies and support process‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven experience directing complex projects in an academic or research environment.
• Strong understanding of budgeting, financial analysis and resource allocation.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills, with ability to work across multiple units.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and enforce policies and improve operational processes.
• Experience supervising staff and conducting performance evaluations.
