Senior Project Engineer – Aerospace/Defense

About the role

Moog is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to lead technical compliance and execution across the full product lifecycle for its Space and Defense Group. The role serves as the primary technical point of contact for customers and mentors junior engineers while driving innovative solutions in a complex aerospace/defense environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support full‑lifecycle program execution, ensuring technical, schedule, and budget commitments are met.
• Provide technical direction to customers, manage ambiguous requirements, and lead change‑management processes.
• Coordinate cross‑functional teams (Functional Engineering, Product Engineering, Business Unit leadership) to plan and execute New Product Introduction efforts.
• Develop cost estimates, write technical volumes for proposals, and reduce product quality risks.
• Maintain awareness of customer and Moog technology roadmaps and influence long‑term strategic decisions.

Required profile

• U.S. DoD security clearance (required).
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Software, or Aerospace Engineering (Master’s a plus).
• 5+ years of experience in aerospace/defense manufacturing, leading full‑lifecycle projects.
• Proven leadership and mentorship abilities.
• Strong communication skills for customer interaction and scope definition.

Required skills

• Earned Value Management (EVM) techniques.
• Critical path analysis and risk/scope/change management.
• Cost estimation and product cost vs. price analysis.
• Electro‑mechanical systems, thermal batteries, controllers, test equipment, thrusters, and attitude control systems.
• Systems‑thinking to balance technical performance, producibility, quality, and business considerations.
