Senior Principal Systems Engineer - Infrastructure and Data Platforms (Remote)

About the role

The Home Depot is hiring a remote Senior Principal Systems Engineer for its Infrastructure and Data Platforms portfolio. The role oversees the development, maintenance and support of the company's technical infrastructure, including network, hardware, database and system software components. It supports 4-6 teams and acts as a key contact for principal software engineers and third-party vendors.

Key responsibilities

• Lead portfolio-level principal meetings, collaborate on build-versus-buy decisions, develop POCs with new technologies and track resource efficiency and cost reduction.
• Act as escalation point for complex challenges, mentor and coach direct reports, run annual and mid-year reviews, and attract and retain top talent.
• Work with Distinguished Engineers to define technology solutions, shape technology roadmaps, remove bottlenecks and drive thought leadership.
• Support high-priority issues and outages, field questions from project, product and support teams, resolve technology disputes, work with vendors on feature enhancements and evangelize tooling.

Required profile

• 18 years of age or older and legally permitted to work in the United States.
• 7-9 years of relevant work experience, including 2-3+ years of leadership experience and experience developing and evangelizing technology strategies.
• Preferred: excellent written and verbal communication, mastery of assigned domains, quick understanding of complex systems, and active participation in professional groups.

Required skills

• Preferred: platform tools such as Kubernetes and CNCF projects, and familiarity with Red Hat OpenShift and Pivotal Cloud Foundry.
• Preferred: SQL Server and Oracle, and AI-assisted development practices.
• Preferred: a programming language and knowledge of multiple infrastructure domains.

Travel is typically required 5% to 20% of the time. The pay range is $170,000 to $280,000 for residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Nevada, New York City, Ithaca (NY), Westchester County (NY) and Washington.
