Senior Political Affairs Officer

About the role

The Senior Political Affairs Officer supports the Secretary-General and senior EOSG officials by providing situational awareness, trend analysis and strategic advice across political, peacekeeping, humanitarian and human-rights portfolios.

Key responsibilities

• Provide the Secretary-General and EOSG senior officials with situational awareness, trend analysis and forward-looking advice on emerging and ongoing issues.
• Prepare, review and edit the Secretary-General’s correspondence, speeches, statements, briefing notes, talking points and key messages for high-level meetings.
• Represent the EOSG Political Unit in meetings with Member State delegations, regional organisations and inter-agency partners, conveying EOSG priorities and ensuring follow-up.
• Coordinate EOSG review of reports related to assigned geographic and thematic areas for approval before presentation to intergovernmental bodies such as the Security Council and General Assembly.
• Conduct research and in-depth analysis on political, peacekeeping, humanitarian and human-rights issues, providing early-warning advice to senior officials.

Required profile

• Senior-level professional with extensive experience in political, peacekeeping, humanitarian and human-rights contexts.
• Proven ability to produce high-quality written products for senior UN leadership.
• Experience representing an organization in high-level diplomatic meetings.
