Senior Platform Engineer - Azure, Data & AI

About the role

The Senior Platform Engineer builds and runs the Azure platform that Howden's US AI and data workloads sit on. Reporting to the AI Lead, this is a hands-on, self-directed engineering role where you design, code and operate landing zones, the data platform, AI runtime services and the networking, identity and security controls that let engineering teams ship AI safely and quickly. Most of the work is done in Terraform, pipelines and Azure, with a strong emphasis on agent-assisted development.

Key responsibilities

• Azure platform: design, build and operate Azure landing zones (subscriptions, management groups, naming and tagging, Azure Policy, RBAC, cost boundaries) and provision compute and hosting for AI services (Container Apps, AKS, App Service, Functions, container registries)
• Shared platform services: API Management, Key Vault, Service Bus, Event Hubs, Storage, Cosmos DB and managed identity patterns
• AI platform: build and run Azure AI Foundry and the AI Gateway with model routing, rate limiting, cost attribution and telemetry, and host AI agents with tool and MCP server connectivity
• Agent control surfaces: Microsoft Agent 365, Entra Agent ID and the agent registry, including registration, ownership, entitlement and decommissioning
• Data platform: build and run Databricks with Unity Catalog, implement Lakehouse storage on ADLS Gen2 with Delta, and build ingestion and transformation pipelines from insurance source systems
• Work from architecture direction set by the Leads, Group Architecture and InfoSec, delivering production-quality work with minimal direction

Required profile

• Ability to take an outcome and a rough shape, break it down, sequence it and deliver independently
• Experience with agent-assisted development and coding agents
• Full-time, exempt position based in the United States (remote)
