Senior Payroll Tax Specialist

About the role

Group 1 Automotive is seeking a Senior Payroll Tax Specialist to lead payroll tax compliance for more than 150 entities across the United States and United Kingdom. The role ensures accurate federal, state and local tax filings and partners with Payroll, Accounting, HRIS and Treasury teams.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end payroll tax activities for 150+ FEINs, including federal, state and local filings, amendments and corrected returns.
• Prepare, maintain and submit tax account registrations, closures and quarterly/year‑end processing.
• Perform month‑end reconciliations and collaborate with tax service providers, Treasury and Accounting to resolve discrepancies.
• Audit case documentation, track tickets in third‑party systems and ensure timely follow‑up with tax authorities.
• Lead cross‑functional initiatives with Payroll, HRIS, Accounting and Treasury to improve compliance, reduce defects and streamline processes.
• Drive continuous improvement projects to enhance payroll tax accuracy and efficiency.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in payroll tax compliance and multi‑state tax reporting.
• Demonstrated ability to manage large volumes of FEINs and interact with multiple tax jurisdictions.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Proven experience collaborating with Payroll, Accounting, Treasury and external tax service providers.

Required skills

• Workday (HRIS) experience.
• Payroll tax software or similar tax filing platforms.
