Senior OBD System Development Engineer

About the role

Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is seeking a Senior OBD System Development Engineer to lead diagnostic system development for one or more vehicle sub‑systems. You will act as the subject‑matter expert for onboard diagnostic (OBD) features, ensuring robust requirement definition, software implementation and integration across engineering, manufacturing and service teams.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the OBD domain expert, driving diagnostic system development for assigned vehicle sub‑systems.
• Act as primary liaison between the diagnostics organization and system, controls, software, manufacturing and service groups.
• Champion OBD feature planning, coordination and alignment with overall program schedules.
• Define diagnostic requirements based on stakeholder input and DFMEA analyses.
• Identify fault detection mechanisms and design monitoring strategies, including algorithm and architecture specifications.
• Collaborate with software, test, integration and calibration teams to ensure correct implementation.
• Verify requirements and architectural designs to guarantee functional correctness.
• Collect feedback from manufacturing, service, reliability and quality to continuously improve diagnostic coverage.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in vehicle diagnostics and onboard diagnostic (OBD) system development.
• Proven ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and manage complex feature integration.
• Strong understanding of DFMEA processes and fault detection methodologies.
• Excellent analytical skills to translate stakeholder needs into detailed technical requirements.
