Senior Network Administrator (Remote Opportunity)

About the role

VetsEZ is seeking a Senior Network Administrator to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) network infrastructure for VistA, the VA Enterprise Cloud (VAEC) AWS environment and the VA Wide Area Network. The role plans, administers, maintains, monitors and secures enterprise and local networks supporting VistA and cloud-hosted VA systems. Candidates must reside in the continental US.

Key responsibilities

• Administer and maintain the VistA network infrastructure in line with VA and federal IT standards.
• Provide ongoing network operations and maintenance of the VAEC AWS cloud and the VA WAN, following VA security standards.
• Review, plan and implement requests for additional network connectivity to cloud resources in the VAEC AWS environment.
• Work with multiple teams of administrators and technical engineers to troubleshoot, resolve and document network issues.
• Create plans for the management, operation and maintenance of networks and systems, and develop and maintain network diagrams and documentation.
• Monitor performance, identify trends and recommend improvements; apply agency policies for computer access, firewall and network protection.
• Plan and execute network tasks in a SAFe/Agile environment, including agile ceremonies.
• Respond to network incidents and outages, lead troubleshooting to restore service with minimal downtime, and document root causes and corrective actions.
• Present network configuration, update, status and performance reports to the client and stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, electronics engineering or another engineering/technical discipline, or 8 years of additional relevant experience.
• 5+ years of experience.
• Experience managing, monitoring and configuring computer systems across networks, including high-volume/high-availability systems and wide area networks, for government IT.
• Experience with AWS cloud networking and with multiple teams supporting enterprise and local networks.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Required skills

• AWS cloud networking and connectivity to cloud resources.
• Firewall and network protection technologies, with experience implementing firewalls and planning their implementation.
• Network diagrams and documentation with industry-standard tools.
• Familiarity with SAFe/Agile methodologies.
• Preferred: experience supporting VistA, VAEC and the VA WAN; CompTIA Network+ or CCNA; experience with AI-assisted tools such as GitHub Copilot or Microsoft 365 Copilot; experience in federal healthcare IT environments.
