Senior Medical Billing & Revenue Cycle Specialist

About the role

A U.S.-based healthcare services organization working with primary care practices is looking for an experienced Senior Medical Billing & Revenue Cycle Specialist. The role covers the full revenue cycle, including claims submission, payment posting, denial management, appeals and patient billing support. It is a full-time, fully remote position with two weeks of initial training, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM Eastern Time.

Key responsibilities

• Review and submit claims in Athena, checking coding, modifiers and payer requirements
• Monitor clearinghouse rejections and resubmit affected claims
• Track claim status throughout the billing cycle and post ERA/EOB payments accurately
• Reconcile payments, apply adjustments, write-offs and contractual allowances
• Identify, research and appeal denied or underpaid claims, and track denial trends
• Answer patient billing questions and explain EOBs and balances, coordinating with practice teams
• Maintain daily tracking of claim submissions and patient statements

Required profile

• 5+ years of hands-on U.S. medical billing and RCM experience, including claims, payment posting and denials
• Direct experience with athenahealth (Athena) and strong spoken and written English
• Strong organization, attention to detail, follow-up and customer empathy
• Reliable internet connection, quiet remote workspace and full-time availability
• Primary care billing experience, experience with multiple practices and previous BPO/offshore RCM experience are strongly preferred

• EDI: 837 claims, 835 remittances, 270/271 eligibility
• CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS and payer billing (Medicare, Medicaid, commercial)
• CPB, CPC or similar billing/coding credential is a plus
