Senior Mechanical Engineer & Project Manager

About the role

Acorn is seeking a senior mechanical engineer who can also lead projects, providing technical leadership for a team developing innovative robotics, automation, and medical devices. The role combines hands‑on mechanical design with full‑cycle project management to deliver world‑class products for high‑profile clients.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a mechanical engineering team designing multi‑DOF powered products.
• Design, build, and test systems and critical components from concept through production.
• Brainstorm and evaluate product architectures against client metrics.
• Perform engineering analyses and tests (kinematics, structural, thermal, tolerances) from concept to verification.
• Assist clients in defining specifications, schedules, and resource plans.
• Manage project budget, timeline, and deliverables as the primary client contact.
• Coordinate work across multiple offices and disciplines.

Required profile

• BSME required; MSME preferred.
• 8+ years of system‑level mechanical design experience.
• Proven project‑management experience leading cross‑functional teams.
• Mechatronics expertise (motors, bearings, gear trains, belt drives, sensors).
• Experience with motion‑control hardware (steppers, servos, DC motors) and position sensors (encoders, limit switches).
• Automation experience for industrial applications and manufacturing lines.
• Hands‑on system bring‑up and integration.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD and finite‑element analysis (FEA).
• Knowledge of ISO 13485 and experience with life‑science or medical device design is a plus.
