Senior Manager Manufacturing Systems Engineering - Automation

About the role

Amgen is hiring a Senior Manager for its Manufacturing Systems Engineering - Automation position at Amgen North Carolina (ANC), within the Facilities & Engineering group. The role leads a team of Automation Engineers who administer and maintain automation systems for drug substance manufacturing, working closely with the Director of Engineering. It is part of the FleX Batch facility, which combines disposable technologies with stainless steel equipment and embeds Industry 4.0 capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of Automation Engineers and act as the main point of contact for automation at ANC manufacturing
• Deliver the automation and process control strategy for drug substance manufacturing, advising senior management so it aligns with Amgen's Process Development strategy
• Manage 24x7 operational support, mentoring, staff development, team productivity and resource use
• Build support structures with internal and multi-functional teams for capital projects, plant support and network initiatives
• Maintain and improve automation system reliability and service contracts with OEMs, including service banked hours
• Ensure site readiness for internal, external agency and partner audits, and ensure safety of personnel
• Manage the department's expense budget and hold 100% accountability for operational and capital spending
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, equipment validation, GMP standards and enterprise cyber resiliency
• Ensure reporting functionality for batch records, cleaning and sterilization systems, including audit trails and version control
• Train automation staff and ensure they participate in Work Center Team meetings

Required profile

• High school diploma / GED and 12 years of engineering and/or project management experience, or Associate's degree and 10 years, or Bachelor's degree and 8 years, or Master's degree and 6 years, or Doctorate and 2 years
• Minimum 2 years of direct people management or leadership experience leading teams, projects or programs
• Preferred: degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field
