Senior Major Gifts Officer – Midlands/Upstate

About the role

The Senior Major Gifts Officer leads strategic fundraising for Communities In Schools of South Carolina, managing a high‑value donor portfolio and driving transformational gifts across the Midlands and Upstate regions.

Key responsibilities

• Prospect, cultivate, solicit and steward major gifts of $25,000+, focusing on multi‑year and transformational investments.
• Maintain a portfolio of 75–100 high‑capacity donors, using Charity Proud CRM for data‑driven decision‑making.
• Lead high‑level donor engagements, including executive briefings, site visits and mission‑driven experiences.
• Partner with senior leadership and board members to support donor cultivation and solicitation.
• Contribute to capital campaigns, special initiatives and regional growth strategies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Nonprofit Management or related field.
• 5–8+ years of progressive experience in individual and major‑gift fundraising with a proven record of five‑ and six‑figure gifts.
• Demonstrated success managing high‑level donor relationships and closing complex gifts.
• Ability to travel within the Lowcountry region and attend evening/weekend events.

Required skills

• Proficiency with donor management systems such as Charity Proud, Raiser’s Edge and Salesforce.
• Strong strategic thinking to translate organizational priorities into compelling funding opportunities.
