Senior Mainframe Software Engineer (COBOL)

About the role

Mastercard is looking for a Senior Software Engineer specialized in Mainframe and COBOL to join its Core Payments team. You will design, develop and maintain high‑performance transaction processing applications that support authorization, clearing and debit functions across the global payments network.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain mission‑critical mainframe applications using COBOL, DB2, CICS, JCL and related tools.
• Analyze business requirements and translate them into scalable software solutions.
• Coordinate with cross‑functional teams and external vendors to ensure project success.
• Lead automation, defect‑tracking and quality‑improvement initiatives.
• Produce performance and security‑compliant code and support ongoing operational monitoring.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years of hands‑on mainframe development experience.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to drive technical road‑maps for payment applications.
• Effective communicator capable of guiding teams and collaborating across locations.
