Senior Java Site Reliability Engineer (SRE)

About the role

As a Java Site Reliability Engineer on the Mastercard Send team, you will design, build, and operate highly resilient, cloud-native payment platforms that enable near real-time money movement worldwide. You will combine strong software engineering expertise with SRE practices to ensure reliability, scalability, security, and performance of mission-critical systems.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, deploy, and support cloud-native Java applications and microservices powering Mastercard Send solutions.
• Build scalable, resilient systems using distributed architecture and cloud-native design patterns.
• Develop and maintain secure, high-performance APIs and backend services.
• Drive production reliability through observability, monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvement.
• Implement SRE practices such as SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, and production readiness reviews.
• Automate deployments, testing, monitoring, and operational processes to improve reliability and reduce manual effort.
• Collaborate with product, platform, infrastructure, and security teams to deliver secure, scalable solutions.
• Optimize application and platform performance for high-volume, real-time transaction processing.

Required profile

• Strong software engineering background with experience in Java development.
• Proven experience building cloud-native, microservices-based systems.
• Hands-on experience with SRE practices and reliability engineering.
• Ability to automate deployment, testing, and monitoring workflows.
• Excellent collaboration skills to work with cross-functional product, platform, and security teams.
