Senior IT Application Security Engineer

About the role

Meijer is looking for a Senior IT Application Security Engineer who acts as a subject matter expert in secure application design, threat modeling and secure coding. The role supports software development teams in building secure solutions by following security checks through every phase of the SDLC, while taking a proactive leadership role in application security initiatives, standards and training.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and present application security topics to technical and non-technical audiences, and advise executive leadership on threats so they can make risk-informed decisions.
• Mentor information security team members and share expertise, and identify knowledge gaps to train IT stakeholders.
• Facilitate third-party penetration tests, triage findings and create remediation plans with development teams, giving tailored guidance to developers.
• Provide security guidance for third-party platforms and open-source software, and review its security.
• Build internal security tooling and support application security during incidents.
• Foster relationships with business partners and vendors to prioritize security initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Information Security or a related field.
• At least four years of professional experience, including two in a security field and one year writing code.
• Experience working cross-functionally with IT and business partners and vendor partners.

Required skills

• Familiarity with object-oriented programming (C#, Java, C++) and OWASP Top 10 secure coding practices.
• Knowledge of application architectures and their risks (single-page apps, client-server, mobile, microservices).
• Foundational knowledge of security in contexts such as networking, cloud, containers, operations, audit and governance.
• Preferred: Agile/Scrum, SAFe or Lean certification, and SANS/GIAC, CompTIA or CISSP certification.

• Pay range of $120,750 to $191,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
