Senior Firmware Engineer

About the role

Etched.ai is building ASIC hardware designed to power the next generation of artificial intelligence, including its Sohu chip, an ASIC built specifically for transformer models. It is looking for a Senior Firmware Engineer to join its fast-growing team in Cupertino, California.

Key responsibilities

• Design software that optimizes the performance of the Sohu chip and unlocks the full potential of very large transformer models.
• Co-develop with a team of hardware and software engineers to push the boundaries of AI technology.
• Solve problems across the full stack, from low-level drivers and APIs to high-level applications and frameworks.
• Review code written by other engineers and give feedback on style, correctness, testability and efficiency.
• Contribute to AI solutions for fields such as natural language processing, chain-of-reasoning automation and generative media.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of software development experience, including data structures and algorithms.
• 5 years testing and launching software products, and 3 years in software design and architecture.
• 5 years of firmware design, implementation and troubleshooting.
• 5 years with embedded architectures, IO technologies (I2C, SPI, PCIe, DRAM) and concepts such as scalability, fault tolerance and consistency.

Required skills

• C++, Rust and/or Python.
• Embedded systems, high-performance computing or distributed systems.
• Deep understanding of computer architecture and operating systems.
• Preferred: Master's or PhD in engineering or computer science, technical leadership experience, Java or Go, and strong communication skills.
