Senior Environmental Specialist

About the role

BASF's Care Chemicals division, a supplier to the cosmetics, detergents and cleaning industries, is hiring a Senior Environmental Specialist in Mauldin, SC (on-site). Reporting to the EHS Director of Care Chemicals Americas, the role supports, facilitates and implements EHS programs that ensure compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements. About 75% of the time is spent on environmental compliance program management and 25% on occupational safety and industrial hygiene support.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical and regulatory expertise to ensure EHS compliance at the site, with an emphasis on environmental compliance management.
• Manage federal, state and local environmental programs covering air, waste and water (e.g. LDAR, Title V, PSM/RMP, RCRA, EPCRA, SPCC).
• Serve as technical expert on environmental regulatory compliance for the EPA, SCDES and applicable industry standards.
• Interface with employees, regulators and third parties on compliance and enforcement issues, and share programs, procedures and tools that promote a safe and healthy workplace.
• Work with site management, employees and the EHS community on EHS issues and opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Support the Responsible Care management system and corporate EHS policies such as safe work permits, job safety analysis, management of change, incident investigations, HAZCOM, training and pre-startup safety reviews.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, an environmental discipline or a related field.
• 5-10 years of experience implementing EHS programs in a chemical manufacturing environment.
• Experience with Health and Safety management and Responsible Care management systems.
• Professional certification in safety, health or environmental topics preferred.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
