Senior Designer

About the role

Leonardo DRS is seeking a Senior Designer to turn concepts into buildable hardware for naval power systems. You will own part, sub‑assembly and system‑level designs, collaborating closely with engineers and shop‑floor partners in Menomonee Falls, WI.

Key responsibilities

• Create mechanical, electrical and electronic design drawings for new parts, sub‑assemblies, and system configurations using the latest 3D CAD tools.
• Produce detailed drawings that include multiple views, dimensions, tolerances, material specifications and relationships between components.
• Build and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and associated documentation, including Engineering Change Orders.
• Support quality and performance by assisting with prototype builds, basic testing and results review.
• Perform and document calculations such as strength of materials, torque, weight, forces and stresses, using automated tools when appropriate.
• Identify fit/interference risks, propose solutions or alternate constructions, and update drawings accordingly.
• Partner with Mechanical and Electrical engineers to resolve issues quickly while keeping design intent aligned with manufacturing and quality requirements.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree (or equivalent) in a technical field.
• 2‑5 years of drafting or design experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with common engineering and design concepts, practices and procedures.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• U.S. citizenship; may require an active DoD security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
