Senior Department Administrator – Clinical

About the role

The University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is seeking a Senior Department Administrator to lead clinical operations, manage fiscal activities, and support senior leadership. This full‑time position oversees budgeting, grants, compliance, and staff development for the department.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with administrators and institutional executives to develop clinical practice strategies.
• Develop and oversee operating and capital budgets; support contract negotiations.
• Produce and distribute financial, accounting, and budgetary reports.
• Ensure accurate patient accounting and manage grant, contract, pre‑award and post‑award activities.
• Interpret and ensure compliance with federal, state, local laws and accrediting standards.
• Develop HR plans, recruit, develop, and maintain departmental staff.
• Analyze staffing, financing, operations, policies, and procedures for efficiency.
• Support space planning, facility maintenance, and oversee construction/renovation projects.
• Establish and assess internal controls and ensure employee training on policies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in administrative, financial, or operational management within a clinical or research environment.
• Proven ability to manage budgets, grants, and complex projects.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance and accreditation standards.
• Experience in human resources planning and staff development.
