Senior Defined Contribution Consultant

About the role

Mercer, a Marsh business, is looking for a Senior Defined Contribution (DC) Consultant to join its DC team in the Central zone, based in Chicago. This is a hybrid role with at least three days a week in the office. The consultant acts as lead advisor to a book of DC clients with plans between $25M and $500M in assets, supporting them on plan investments, plan design, fee benchmarking, recordkeeping vendor management, fiduciary governance and employee engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Present plan review and investment review reports to clients for advisory and OCIO engagements.
• Retain and grow the book of business by building long-term relationships with clients and decision makers, and with other Mercer lines of business.
• Serve as subject matter expert on DC topics, including plan design consulting, investment advisory and delegated OCIO services.
• Conduct plan document/SPD, operational and compliance reviews, and oversee RFP/RFI marketing and transitions.
• Anticipate client needs, define a scope of services and deliver accurate, compliant work with peer review.
• Cultivate new business through networks, events and conferences, and take part in sales activities.

Required profile

• 4+ years of experience, including a track record of investment advice and consulting/strategy for retirement plans.
• Strong understanding of the DC landscape, fiduciary topics, investments, plan design trends, administrative practices and employee engagement.
• Track record of building intellectual capital for business development and client delivery.
• Strong presentation skills.
• Nice to have: experience with 401(k), 403(b) and 457(b) plans; client management and business development experience; seminar and conference presentations.
