Senior Communications Specialist – Georgia Department of Labor

About the role

The Georgia Department of Labor is seeking a Senior Communications Specialist to shape its public narrative and promote key initiatives. Working within the Communications Unit, you will partner with the Chief Communications Officer to craft compelling stories that highlight the agency’s impact across the state.

Key responsibilities

• Manage media inquiries, coordinate responses, and provide accurate information to reporters.
• Research, draft, and pitch earned‑media opportunities such as op‑eds, human‑interest features, and success stories.
• Develop and maintain targeted media lists, build relationships with journalists, and monitor coverage for proactive engagement.
• Prepare press kits, background materials, and media briefings for senior leaders, including the Commissioner.
• Contribute to media strategy sessions, offering insights on message development, public positioning, and reputation management.

Required profile

• Proven experience in strategic communications and media relations, preferably in a public‑sector environment.
• Ability to simplify complex issues and translate them into clear, news‑worthy narratives.
• Strong writing and editing skills with a track record of successful media placements.
• Proactive mindset with the capacity to identify and act on emerging communication opportunities.
