Senior Backend Engineer - AI Systems & Platform

About the role

LookRoom AI is building an AI‑powered personal assistant that automates appearance‑related decisions. As a Senior Backend Engineer you will design and implement the core backend systems that connect user context, digital wardrobe data, and AI intelligence.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and build the personalization and user intelligence layer, handling preferences, wardrobe history, behavior signals and feedback loops.
• Develop the digital wardrobe infrastructure, including media management, item metadata, outfit relationships and search/retrieval capabilities.
• Implement AI orchestration platforms that integrate LLMs, multimodal models, routing, validation, cost optimisation and failure handling.
• Create context‑aware recommendation engines that combine wardrobe data, weather, calendar, occasion and user context.
• Design learning loops to continuously improve recommendations from user actions and feedback.
• Integrate external services such as fashion retailers, e‑commerce catalogs, weather and calendar APIs.

Required profile

• Senior‑level backend engineer with strong architectural decision‑making skills.
• Comfortable working in a fast‑moving startup environment, turning ambiguous requirements into production‑ready solutions.
• Ability to explain technical choices to non‑technical stakeholders and collaborate directly with founders.

Required skills

• Python and/or Express/Node.js/TypeScript.
• REST and GraphQL API design.
• SQL and NoSQL database modeling.
• Authentication/authorization, API security, performance and scalability.
• Cloud platforms (AWS, GCP or Azure), Docker/containerisation.
• Caching, asynchronous processing, queues, background jobs, event‑driven architecture.
• CI/CD pipelines, testing, observability.
• Experience with LLM APIs, multimodal AI, embeddings, vector databases, RAG and recommendation systems.
