Senior Backend Developer – Trading Platforms & Equities Engineering

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer to join the Equities Engineering team of a leading global financial services firm. The role focuses on building and modernising high‑performance, low‑latency backend systems that support mission‑critical trading platforms and front‑office applications.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend trading and operational applications in the equities domain.
• Build and support trading channels and messaging integrations with brokers, venues, exchanges and downstream systems.
• Develop scalable services using Java, Spring Boot and distributed messaging technologies such as Kafka, IBM MQ, FIX and FpML.
• Drive platform modernization initiatives including microservices architecture, cloud‑native deployments and OMS consolidation.
• Implement AI‑assisted development workflows and ensure low‑latency, high‑throughput performance.
• Coordinate testing procedures, production releases and provide second‑level support in high‑pressure trading environments.
• Mentor junior developers and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.
• Support trade data feed management and downstream system integrations.

Required profile

• 10+ years of software development experience in enterprise applications.
• Strong hands‑on experience with Java and the Spring ecosystem.
• Proven expertise in designing scalable, low‑latency distributed systems.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and Linux/Windows environments.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines and modern SDLC methodologies.
• Excellent analytical, debugging and troubleshooting skills.
• Effective communication and stakeholder collaboration abilities.
