Senior Automation Engineer

About the role

Amazon’s Reliability & Maintenance Engineering team is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to drive equipment reliability and operational performance in fulfillment centers. You will provide proactive controls automation, technical support, and lead continuous‑improvement projects on material handling equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Apply subject‑matter expertise to troubleshoot complex control system issues and eliminate downtime of critical assets.
• Collaborate with Operations, Operations Engineering, FC Start‑up, AFT Software, ACES, and Safety teams to optimize MHE systems and implement projects.
• Maintain and troubleshoot material handling control systems, including PLC/PC controllers and industrial networks (Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus).
• Work with motor control systems, servo drives, frequency drives, and electrical distribution systems.
• Monitor MHE metrics, partner with maintenance/operations to address performance issues, and provide analysis across all operations.
• Provide escalation support to automation engineers both locally and remotely, during and after business hours.

Required profile

• Senior‑level engineering experience in automation and material handling environments.
• Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and mentor junior engineers.
• Strong analytical skills for root‑cause analysis and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
