Senior Attorney (Attorney 4) – Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice

About the role

The Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice is seeking an experienced Attorney 4 to lead its most complex legal matters. This senior position provides independent counsel to agency leadership, represents the department in litigation and administrative hearings, and shapes policy across the state.

Key responsibilities

• Lead internal disciplinary processes, including reviewing investigative reports, drafting disciplinary letters and settlement agreements, and representing OJJ in Civil Service hearings and appeals.
• Represent the Deputy Secretary in federal, state, and municipal courts, handling motions, pleadings, briefs, appellate work, and conducting witness interviews.
• Review criminal records of prospective detention‑center employees and provide legal analysis of legislation affecting the agency.
• Serve on agency committees, act as Ethics Liaison, and provide guidance to other attorneys.
• Deliver training on disciplinary procedures and perform additional duties assigned by the General Counsel.

Required profile

• Current Louisiana license to practice law.
• Minimum three years of experience as a practicing attorney.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex litigation and policy development.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to work across multiple parishes.
