Senior Associate, Jewish Communal Engagement

About the role

J Street is seeking a relationship‑driven organizer to translate its national communal strategy into local action across Jewish communities. The Senior Associate will work remotely or in a hybrid setting, traveling regularly to engage with rabbis, synagogues, and Jewish institutions.

Key responsibilities

• Recruit, develop, and support lay leaders to open doors for J Street and build connections with Jewish clergy and institutions.
• Execute regional engagement plans that align with national priorities, coordinate events, programs, and follow‑through activities.
• Map and prioritize local Jewish communities, identifying key institutions, clergy, and leaders for focused outreach.
• Contribute to department‑wide projects such as data management, communications, and resource development.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional organizing, leadership, or community‑building experience, preferably within Jewish communities.
• Strong commitment to J Street’s mission of a secure, democratic Israel and a just resolution to the Israeli‑Palestinian conflict.
• Excellent strategic judgment, ability to assess community landscapes quickly, and highly organized with strong follow‑through.
• Willingness to travel regularly and spend significant time in‑person with community members.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of American Jewish communal life, including denominations, synagogues, clergy roles, and organizations.
• Organizing and leadership abilities to build trust, identify leaders, and mobilize relationships toward shared goals.
