Senior Associate Embedded Software Engineer

About the role

This onsite position in Lake Forest, California, is part of Alcon’s Information Technology function, delivering cutting‑edge technology for medical eye‑care devices. You will design, develop, integrate and test embedded software for computer‑controlled electromechanical devices in a Real‑Time Operating System environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement software solutions based on detailed requirements.
• Participate in code reviews and maintain high‑quality coding standards.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate firmware with hardware.
• Troubleshoot and resolve software issues promptly, using lab equipment and debugging tools.
• Document software design and test results to support regulatory compliance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 2 years of experience developing embedded software.
• Fluent English communication skills (read, write, speak).

Required skills

• Proficiency in C and C++ for embedded microcontrollers (e.g., ST STM32, NXP).
• Experience with board bring‑up and peripheral interfaces such as SPI, CAN, UART, I2C, Ethernet, ADC and DAC.
• Strong debugging skills using logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, in‑circuit emulators and DVMs.
• Understanding of embedded software architecture, design patterns and RTOS (e.g., CMX, ThreadX).
• Ability to read electronic schematics and work with electronic circuitry.
