Senior Assistant Librarian, Student Success & Belonging

About the role

The Department of Research, Instruction, and Outreach Services at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is seeking a tenure-track Senior Assistant Librarian to support its service and information literacy mission. The position focuses on the Department of English, especially Approaches to University Writing courses for General Education credit, partnering with students so they feel connected, supported and empowered. It is a 12-month, full-time, tenure-track faculty position with an anticipated hiring range of $85,524 to $99,420 depending on qualifications.

Key responsibilities

• Provide general and/or discipline-specific library and information literacy instruction
• Develop discipline-specific online research guides and digital learning objects (DLOs)
• Give reference assistance and research consultations in person and virtually
• Reach out to faculty and student organizations
• Participate in collection development for the Department of English
• Support faculty research and scholarly communications
• Serve on library, campus, regional and national initiatives or committees
• Attend faculty meetings, take part in assessment of student learning and serve the department, college and university; some weekday, evening, weekend and online work is required

Required profile

• Master's degree in information and/or library science from an ALA-accredited school, or equivalent degree earned outside the U.S. or Canada
• Experience providing reference assistance (virtual, in person and/or research consultations)
• Teaching experience giving information literacy instruction or teaching writing-intensive courses
• Ability to use culturally responsive pedagogies that lead to equitable outcomes for all students
• Commitment to research and professional development leading to promotion and tenure in the CSU system
• Work authorization in the United States; CSUN does not sponsor H-1B visas

Preferred qualifications

• Degree in English, rhetoric or a closely related writing-intensive discipline
• Evidence of engagement with a diverse student body and experience using culturally responsive pedagogy in the classroom
• Outreach experience with students from diverse backgrounds and inclusive approaches to reference
