Senior Accountant, Technical Accounting & Reporting

About the role

Shield AI, a venture-backed defense-tech company, is looking for an experienced Senior Technical Accountant to join its growing Accounting team. The role ensures that complex transactions are accounted for accurately and reflected clearly in consolidated financial statements, combining technical accounting, financial reporting, audit readiness and cross-functional partnership.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze new, unusual and complex transactions such as leases, financial instruments and business combinations, and write audit-ready technical accounting memos and whitepapers under U.S. GAAP.
• Prepare GAAP financial statements, footnotes and supporting schedules, and maintain roll forwards, tie-outs and internal consistency checks.
• Coordinate external audit requests, keep supporting documentation and run controls for financial reporting, SOX and IPO readiness.
• Monitor new accounting guidance, update policies and improve reporting templates, workflows and systems through standardization and automation.
• Work with Corporate Accounting, Legal, Corporate Development, Treasury, Tax, FP&A and Program Finance to evaluate transactions and implement approved accounting conclusions.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Active CPA license.
• 3+ years of progressive experience in public accounting, technical accounting, financial reporting or a high-growth operating environment.
• Experience preparing or auditing financial statements, footnote disclosures and supporting schedules.

Required skills

• Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and experience researching accounting guidance and documenting technical conclusions.
• Excel proficiency and experience with ERP and financial reporting systems; Workiva experience preferred.
• Clear communication, strong ownership, judgment, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
