Senior Accountant – Construction Projects

About the role

The University of Miami/UHealth Facilities team is seeking a Senior Accountant to manage the financial aspects of construction and capital projects on the UHealth Medical Campus. This full‑time position ensures accurate recording of transactions, compliance with policies, and timely financial reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and reconcile project‑related ledger accounts, ensuring all invoices, purchase orders, and change orders are accurate and properly coded.
• Prepare complex balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
• Act as liaison between vendors, contractors, university purchasing, accounts payable, and project managers to resolve discrepancies and ensure proper approvals.
• Conduct regular one‑on‑one meetings with project managers to review budgets, expenditures, and financial performance.
• Mentor and assist lower‑level accountants, providing guidance on accounting principles and university policies.

Required profile

• Professional accounting experience, preferably in construction or capital‑project environments.
• Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and university financial policies.
• Ability to analyze costs, revenues, and commitments to forecast future financial outcomes.
• High level of confidentiality and integrity in handling financial data.

Required skills

• Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems.
• Advanced Excel skills for financial analysis and reporting.
