Second Service Manager - Grocery

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Second Service Manager for its grocery store in Mt. Pleasant. The role covers customer service, sales floor operations and merchandising, and reports to the District Store Director, Store Manager and Assistant Managers. Night and weekend shifts are required.

Key responsibilities

• Provide prompt, efficient and friendly customer service, greet customers by name where possible and train employees in store policies and procedures.
• Maintain the sales floor, cleanliness, sanitation, equipment and appearance of the store, and inspect merchandise for correct pricing and display.
• Order merchandise, verify deliveries, check quality and report discrepancies; coordinate backroom facilities and equipment.
• Handle cash registers, distribute money to registers, and keep cash accountable; approve checks for cash or merchandise purchases.
• Recruit and interview applicants, and recommend transfers, promotions, discipline, discharge and salary adjustments.
• Develop displays, select themes and colors, and oversee their construction; suggest improvements and cost-reduction programs.
• Supervise staff, assign work, review performance and ensure compliance with policies and laws.

Required profile

• High school or 1 year of similar or related work experience.
• Ability to solve practical problems, do arithmetic with fractions, decimals and percentages, and interview candidates.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently, and to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach and stand.
• Willingness to work night and weekend shifts in a fast-paced environment with exposure to dust, noise, temperature extremes and chemicals.
