Seafood Service/Meat Manager

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Seafood Service/Meat Manager in Madison. The manager presents fresh seafood and meat products at competitive prices, trains employees, writes work schedules, displays merchandise and manages the department according to company guidelines. The position is non-exempt and reports to the District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Manager of Perishables, Store Operations and Health Wellness Home.

Key responsibilities

• Create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere, greet customers by name and help them find products, load or unload heavy items and take product orders by phone
• Set department standards for customer service, cleanliness, sanitation and professionalism
• Train, supervise, discipline and evaluate department employees, and set weekly schedules and daily work plans
• Inspect displays, order product for replenishment, figure retail pricing and ensure correct pricing
• Analyze weekly and monthly sales and trends, prepare ad projections and write ads, and plan displays and promotions
• Maintain proper temperatures and storage to control shrinkage, troubleshoot equipment and ensure maintenance is done
• Handle customer issues, conduct inventory, attend meetings and seminars, and fill displays and check in delivered goods
• Follow company policies on hygiene, dress and punctuality, and adhere to department and store guidelines

Required profile

• High school education or equivalent, with food safety training
• Over three years up to five years of similar or related work experience
• Ability to solve practical problems, do arithmetic with fractions, decimals and percentages, and follow technical manuals
• Supervisory duties: instruct, assign and review the work of others, maintain standards, coordinate activities, allocate personnel and recommend transfers, discharge and salary increases
• Physical ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally, 50 pounds frequently and 10 pounds constantly, with normal vision and color vision

Working conditions include exposure to dirt, noise, temperature extremes, cleaning chemicals and equipment hazards in a fast-paced environment. The position involves confidential information and company assets, and employment is contingent on a pre-employment drug screen.
