About the role
The Safety & Soundness unit of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis is seeking qualified professionals to join its team of Bank Examiners. Examiners conduct examinations of community and regional banks as well as inspections of bank holding companies across the Eighth Federal Reserve District. The position can be based in St. Louis, MO; Louisville, KY; or Memphis, TN.
Key responsibilities
- Evaluate the financial condition of banks, including capital adequacy, asset quality, earnings, liquidity, and interest‑rate risk exposure.
- Assess the effectiveness of risk‑management frameworks, board oversight, internal controls, and management information systems.
- Ensure compliance with applicable banking laws, regulations, and supervisory guidance.
- Prepare and present professional supervisory reports summarizing findings and recommendations.
- Travel approximately 50 nights per year (20‑30% of workdays) to conduct on‑site examinations within the district.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Examiner commission or certification from a federal or state regulatory agency (preferred).
- At least five years of relevant banking experience such as lending, capital markets, Bank Secrecy Act compliance, or related financial‑services work.
- Demonstrated ability to lead or participate in bank examinations or inspections.
- Strong written communication skills for supervisory reporting.
Required skills
- Knowledge of banking operations, financial analysis, and accounting principles.
- Understanding of regulatory frameworks governing banks and bank holding companies.
