Safety & Security Officer – Evening Shift

About the role

The Safety & Security Officer ensures a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for guests, staff, and animals at Zoo New England during the evening shift (3:00 pm – 11:00 pm). You will be the frontline representative, protecting people and property while delivering excellent customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Patrol zoo grounds and monitor surveillance cameras, alarms, and access points.
• Respond promptly to incidents, emergencies, guest concerns, and provide first aid, CPR, and AED support when needed.
• Control access to restricted areas, escort vendors, contractors, and inspectors.
• Assist guests with directions and information, and document all incidents with accurate reports.
• Coordinate with police, fire departments, and other external agencies as required.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean record.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays on a flexible schedule.
• Physical ability to walk, stand, climb stairs, lift up to 50 lb, and navigate uneven terrain.
• Strong communication, judgment, and de‑escalation skills.

Required skills

• First aid, CPR, and AED certification.
• Experience with surveillance system monitoring and access‑control tools.
• Basic computer and reporting proficiency.
