Safety Hazmat Technician – Emergency Response

About the role

The Safety Hazmat Technician supports R+L Carriers' Kansas City service center by leading emergency response, hazardous material clean‑up, and site remediation activities. The role reports to the Director of Safety and ensures compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to emergencies involving hazardous and non‑hazardous materials.
• Perform clean‑up, site remediation, and equipment decontamination.
• Handle, containerize, and document hazardous material shipments.
• Audit incoming and outgoing hazardous shipments for regulatory compliance.
• Lead safety procedures, complete safety documentation, and uphold R+L safety policies.
• Set up and participate in live training events for personnel competency.
• Coach co‑workers on unsafe behaviors and participate in specialized projects as required.

Required profile

• 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
• Physically fit and able to lift up to 75 lb.
• Ability to thrive in a high‑pressure, fast‑paced environment.
• Strong communication skills and ability to report issues promptly.
• Detail‑oriented with capacity to manage multiple tasks.
